On Sunday September 21st (1:45-5pm) Rockingham’s History Group is planning a visit to the British Schools Museum, in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

The Museum offers many interactive activities celebrating over 200 years of education heritage.

They have an 1837 Monitorial Schoolroom; the only one of its kind left in the world.

There are also 3 other historic classrooms, the Headmaster’s House and displays and exhibitions based upon an extraordinary collection of 47,000 objects.

For those coming on the visit, there will also be a free taught ‘school lesson’ and other interactive sessions; ideal for all ages to discover the history of schooling as we have come to know it.

The visit is open to all. It will cost £4.50 for adults and £2.50 for children between 5 and 17 (under 5s free). Group discounts are also available.

It takes about 1-1½ hours to drive there from Rockingham, Corby and Northampton; group transport can be arranged, departing 12pm. We hope you’ll be able to join us!

If you are interested in attending, contact Laura before August 22nd by emailing heritage@rockinghamvillage.co.uk.
